IGTV is the only video application by Instagram for Android and iOS users to be able to upload lengthy videos on Instagram. It enables us to access more extended videos as compared to Instagram. While IGTV is available as a single app, the primary functionality is also available within the Instagram app and the website.

The service was originated and founded by former Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom in a live event in San Francisco on June 20, 2018.

To date, users were only able to post a video with a length of 1 minute over Instagram which was holding the user to a certain time limit. IGTV asks users to login with an Instagram account. It helps users to upload videos up to 10 minutes in length with a file size of up to 650 MB. Moreover, verified and popular users are allowed to upload the videos of up to 60 minutes in length with a file size of up to 3.6 GB. Instagram accounts users with an IGTV channel receive the IGTV tab on their profile page.

IGTV grew a lot in its first year. The most important change Instagram made this year is enabling creators to publish previews of IGTV videos to their Instagram profile, which added another way for onlookers to discover IGTV videos. Also, we’ve noticed viewers spending more time with IGTV these days.

From May 2019, IGTV came up with a new update in which users were allowed to upload and view videos in both upright and parallel adjustments, as opposed to just upright adjustment before the update. Ultimately, their vision is to make IGTV a stop for vast content no matter how it’s executed so originators can express themselves how they want.

In many ways, opening IGTV to more than just upright videos is similar to when we opened Instagram to more than just squared photos in 2015. It allowed creativity to grow and engagement to rise.

IGTV is a place to watch even more content from the creators they love – and do right from their phone. For creators, more liberty to express themselves the way they want to. Vertical videos work great for creators who want to be personal with their viewers; but landscape also has its powers, notably when it comes to forms like dance and sports which are high motion and often highlight a handful of people in the frame.

Instagram has built meaningful, strong, and different communities thereby helping to create the future of TV on mobile. They’ll continue to evolve to not only help you grow your communities but generate traffic to your businesses across IGTV and Instagram.
